The Documentary Filmmakers Group (DFG), the national organisation working to promote documentary filmmaking talent and innovation in the UK. DFG is the leading provider of industry-focussed training for established and aspiring documentary filmmakers. It also organises exclusive events and networking opportunities for those looking to get ahead in documentary filmmaking and runs DFGDocs, an online resource for filmmakers and those interested in the art and craft of documentary.

Services & Resources:

• Member of Skillset Media Academy Network in partnership with Goldsmiths, University of London.
• Short courses in all aspects of documentary filmmaking, from camera and editing to writing proposals and pitching.
• Doc Lab: Two-week highly practical course that will see participants make their first short documentary.
• Doc Diploma: one-month intensive diploma in documentary filmmaking, providing the skills necessary to enter the industry and become a broadcast filmmaker.
• Individual professional development initiatives, such as Science on Film, a collaborative project with the Wellcome Trust to bring biomedical scientists and filmmakers together to develop and produce science documentaries.
• Bespoke and corporate training for a wide range of clients, from UK broadcasters to charities and community groups
• Regular project development and networking events for independent filmmakers, such as 10x10, a free workshop for works in progress
• DFGDocs: Online resource for documentary filmmakers, a one-stop shop for documentary news, events and resources.
• An extended range of resources for members, including details of funding opportunities and commissioning rounds, contact details for UK commissioning editors and downloadable guides for the filmmaking process.
