The Place

The Place is home to Artist Development, a support and advice service for the independent dance profession. Artist Development provides a range of research and development opportunities for choreographers, dance film makers and dancers; information primarily through Juice, a monthly listings magazine and guidance through one-to-one advice sessions. A range of services for dance film makers are provided by Videoworks.

Services & Resources:

• We offer one-to-one development sessions for dance artists. Each subscriber receives one free session a year. The focus can be on whatever subscribers want – personal development, company management, dance film making, or any other aspect of careers in dance.
• Launch! is a career development day for dance graduates held every November in partnership with Dance UK.
• The Dance on Screen festival features Insights sessions looking into the creative processes of dance film makers.
• Occasional seminars presented with partner organisations based on the needs of dance artists.
• Videoworks offers one of the country’s largest dance video libraries, quality tape copying, together with digital recording and editing facilities for dance film-makers.
• One-to-one business support sessions include advice on small company management.
• JUICE, a listings magazine, contains information professional dance artists need to know: opportunities, funding, auditions, jobs, classes and training in the UK and abroad, performance platforms, conferences, dance and technology, dance film, health.
• AD researches factsheets for distribution to subscribers on relevant topics, for example, where to show work in Greater London, key contacts in Europe and sources of jobs and auditions, dance film contacts, New York City Pack.
• We publish a website.
